Recent developments in the field of Futures Studies are advancing an anticipatory systems and processes theory (ASP) of why and how humans use the future. Exploration of the diversity of human ASP provides evidence of the benefits of cultivating futures literacy. By gaining the capacity to distinguish different categories of imagined futures people and organisations become more aware of the origins of the fears and hopes that have such a powerful impact on both perception and choice.

This three-day intensive course combines conventional lectures with innovative learning-by-doing ‘laboratory’ experiences. Participants will have an opportunity to identify and learn a range of anticipatory systems and process. This introduction to the theory and practice of futures literacy will allow participants to:

  1. Learn about a range of anticipatory systems and processes to implement strategic priorities.
  2. Explore different ways to advance individual and organization-wide capabilities needed to use the future efficiently and effectively.
  3. Gain a practical experience with a set of field-tested design principles for cultivating and applying futures literacy to different agendas.
