Overview
This course will provide the means for participants to anticipate long-term dynamic development of societies. This is done by providing a solid framework of understanding regarding how industrial societies have developed and changed over the long term. This course will provide a clear idea of the benefits of systems thinking. Participants are enabled to see the futures in different ways and to understand the opportunities and risks that lie ahead.
The aim of the course is to understand the evolution of societies and organizations through long-term fluctuations, stemming from their past and reaching to the future. Participants will be able to comprehend the transition to the next wave of technological, economic and social development and its implications for Dubai and the UAE.

- The importance of long-term dynamics of socio-economic development
- Patterns and how to detect them
- The basics of systems thinking and how to apply it
- Characteristics of each socio-economic wave
- The five ‘Kondratieff waves’ of development from the birth of industrialization to the present
- The next, sixth wave of development
- How to apply wave approach to our own work
- Exercises and groupwork
Target Audience:
This course is intended for mid to upper management government employees dealing with strategic work
Pre-requisite:
Completion of foundational courses are prerequisites to progress to advanced courses*
*If you have prior exposure in foresight, you do not need to take the Foundations of Foresight course. Please share proof of this in your application response.
Courses are complimentary for all government employees.
