Smart Toys Competition – The Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (the “Competition”)

This Competition is organized by Dubai Future Foundation (“DFF“). Set out below are the official rules of this Competition (the “Competition Rules“), which together with the Competition T&Cs apply to this Competition.

Competition Rules

  • Eligibility: The Eligibility requirements for this Competition are set out in the Competition T&Cs. You may only enter this Competition if you are a (i) post-prototype business or (ii) a newly registered entity in the Middle East and North African region where your submission was made between 0-5 years from the date of establishment of the entity. Participants may be locally based or international.
  • Participation: The Competition Categories consists of (i) Health and Nutrition; (ii) Family Support; (iii) Child Protection; (iv) and Early Care and Education (each a “Category“, and collectively referred to as “Categories“). You may submit entries in up to three Categories. Each Participant (“You“) may participate by choosing the relevant Category on the Competition website found here and completing each of the following submission requirements: (i) completing and submitted the submission form; (ii) upload a render of your AI toy which showcases all of its features; and (iii) upload a short video (2-3 minutes in total) showcasing your AI toys features which includes an explanation of the toy’s different components and functionality. Your submission must contribute to the community in a specific aspect of one of the Categories, or multiple Categories if You are submitting multiple entries.
  • Competition Period:
    • The Competition opens for submissions at 00:01 (GST) on 22 February 2021.
    • The Competition closes submissions at 23:59 (GST) on 30 March 2021.
    • The winners of the Competition will be announced at the Smart Toys Award, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, expected in May 2021, such date may be subject to change.
  • Prizes: there will be a total of three winners selected (each a “Winner“). Each Winner will receive as their Prize:
    • In-kind support from Dubai Future Foundation to develop Winner’s toy concepts into fully functioning form;
    • Nomination for the AI Toys Award organised by the World Economic Forum scheduled to take place in May 2021;
    • Significant press attention and recognition in the toy and tech industry; and
    • A website badge and certificate from the World Economic Forum.
  • Judges: The Winners of this Competition will be determined by a judging committee which will include representatives from:
    • National Program for Artificial Intelligence
    • The Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution UAE
    • Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority
    • Dubai Future Accelerators
    • World Economic Forum

The judges are experienced in the fields of technology, education, community and entrepreneurship. We reserve the right to determine the number of judges from the above organisations in our sole discretion.

  • Judging Criteria: the toys will be evaluated using the following factors:
    • Correct use and application of AI where the toy effectively and correctly utilizes AI technologies by virtue of on-board electronic features or cloud services to address any challenges faced by children of determination.
    • Interactive format of console or mobile-connected toys that bridge the physical-digital divide.
    • Ability to react to triggers, learn from interactions and choose the way it behaves with the user in accordance with pre-programmed patterns.  
    • Educational and therapeutic purposes of the AI where it can be used to teach children and parents a variety of lessons related to the Categories in an interactive format.
